The EDGE Initiative

The Eastridge Group of Staffing Companies is pleased to be a part of the EDGE (Educating and Developing workers for the Green Economy) Initiative, which provides education, training and placement services for the growing biofuels and industrial biotechnology industries.

In its role, Eastridge provides third party payroll and back office support for participating companies. In doing so, companies are able to employ individuals through internship programs without the burdens associated with administration and payroll costs. Not only do companies benefit through the use of qualified interns, but interns are paid and receive work experience through laboratory exposure, work readiness skills and career coaching from industry professionals.

The EDGE Initiative is open to job seekers, the unemployed, students deciding on a career, veterans transitioning into civilian work and incumbent workers seeking higher-level positions. Funded training opportunities for qualified individuals are available through certificate courses currently offered at the UCSD Extension and MiraCosta College.

For an industrial biotech industry whose companies grew some 50 percent over the past 5 years, such training is crucial in order to meet California’s and the United States’ needs in the years ahead (CA Industrial Biotech Workforce Survey). Program curriculum for the EDGE Initiative has been carefully constructed, with collaboration from industry professionals, to ensure such sectors’ needs are met with highly skilled workers.
